Each week on Monday or Tuesday I will post College Football headlines on the website. It will either be a stand alone post or it will be tied in with my Top 25 Breakdown which will also be posted today. Oh and hint hint there are a lot of headlines this week, and they showed us which teams are for real and which teams were overrated!

Week 1 Headlines

  • #19 USF struggles to get going in the 1st half, but heats up in 2nd half to beat San Jose State 42-22.
  • #14 Stanford steam rolls Rice 62-7 as Bryce Love rushes for 180 yards.
  • Minnesota, and new coach PJ Fleck struggled vs Buffalo winning 17-7. Buffalo was towards the bottom of the MAC last year.
  • Central Michigan had a rough go of it barely knocking off FCS team, Rhode Island. It took 3 overtimes for the Chippewas, who had a lot of promise in the MAC to begin the year.
  • Oklahoma State did not let off the gas against Tulsa, beating them 59-24.
  • Ohio State(Indiana), Wisconsin(Utah State), and Washington(Rutgers) all struggled in the first half of their games, to only come out of the tunnel and dominate the 2nd half in each game. Out of those 3 teams Ohio State raised the most red flags to me after the hype that they got in the preseason. However, Washington worried me as well.
  • Colorado did a good job stopping Colorado States first game momentum over Oregon State, holding them to 3 points, and winning 17-3.
  • #5 Clemson and #6 Penn State had no problems with MAC schools, absolutely destroying Kent State and Akron accordingly.
  • Maryland looks fantastic vs #23 Texas in the first half, and finishes in the 2nd half to knock off The Longhorns 51-41.
  • Michigan State could not stop making mistakes in the 1st half, but figured it out to beat Bowling Green bad.
  • Iowa pulls away from Wyoming late in the 2nd Josh Allen, a top NFL QB prospect, struggled.
  • Cal vs North Carolina was the only tight game in the noon time frame at half. Cal takes the victory late 35-30.
  • Missouri led Missouri State 48-35 AT HALF. To me it is crazy how an SEC team can give up that many points in a half to an FCS school. Missouri wins 72-43.
  • It took Pitt an overtime to beat the Penguins of Youngstown State.
  • South Carolina and NC State went back and forth as South Carolina pulls away by 7 for a big win 35-28.
  • #11 Michigan only returned one starter on defense, but this defense led by DC Don Brown could still be one of the best in the country. Michigan allowed just 3 points on the first Florida drive and allowed just 192 total yards. Michigan looked iffy in the 1st half on offense, but had no problem taking out #17 Florida who struggled.
  • Notre Dame looks good and beats Temple 49-16. QB Brandon Wimbush showed some promise.
  • Texas Tech shows up and looks great beating one of the FCS best teams, Eastern Washington in a dominate fashion.
  • Northwestern pulls away from Nevada late in a solid win.
  • #4 USC allows Western Michigan to score 31 points, but they found a way to sneak out the victory in the end. Sam Darnold struggled and did not look like a Heisman candidate.
  • #15 Georgia has no problem with the very talented Appalachian State Mountaineers. Jacob Eason went down for Georgia, but he was replaced by true freshman Jake Fromm who was a top 5 ranked QB in the recruiting class.
  • Baylor is upset by Liberty 48-45. Libertys QB was unreal to watch throwing for 447 yards.
  • Boise State takes out the top team in the Sun Belt, Troy, 24-13.
  • The #1 team in the FCS, James Madison, has a field day taking out East Carolina of the AAC 34-14 as their RB Cardon Johnson rushes for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Purdue played a fantastic game and went toe to toe with Louisville, and Heisman trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Louisville finished in the end to go on to win 35-28, but #BoilerUp.
  • Nebraska survived a scare from Arkansas State. The Red Wolves converted a touchdown with a minute left when down 14, and turned around to grab an onside kick, and march down the field into the redzone, where they failed to tie the game and lost by 7. This game showed us that Nebraska may not be as strong this year as they usually are. The Cornhuskers take on Oregon next week.
  • #13 LSU has no trouble shutting out BYU and putting up 27 points in a solid win.
  • Oregon puts up the highest amount of points this week, barely beating out Missouri for the top spot. They scored 77 points in a win over Southern Utah.
  • And for the top headline, Caylin Newton, Cam Newtons little bro, did something spectacular Saturday Night. He led the Howard Bison, a 45 point underdog, to a victory over UNLV. Caylin threw for 140 and rushed for 190 yards, and accounted for 3 of the teams touchdowns.
