Top 25 Notes
#3 Penn State and #4 Georgia continue to roll. Penn State had no trouble with Northwestern and Georgia absolutely demolished Vandy. These two teams continue to inch closer to becoming recognized as top title contenders with Bama and Clemson.
Wash State finds themselves in the top ten at #8 after another impressive win over Oregon, and to make it sound even better they held Oregon’s dynamite offense to just 10 points.
#11 Miami beat Florida State in a heated game to remain undefeated.
#12 Oklahoma really surprised the college football nation by taking an insane upset loss to Iowa State. Oklahoma had the college football playoff in their sights and they controlled their own destiny. Iowa State stepped into Oklahoma and pulled off the biggest upset we have seen in recent years, and planted their flag to mock Baker Mayfield who obviously did not do enough to save Oklahoma.
In another shocking upset #17 Michigan falls to in state rival Michigan State who is now ranked #21. Michigan’s offense looked the worst that we have seen in the Harbaugh era and for the Wolverines it is back to the drawing board. They will likely need to win out to make the college football playoff. In terms of Michigan State I don’t understand how fans can be excited for the future within their season when you force 5 turnovers and only win by 4 points.
#23 Stanford and #24 Texas Tech are both newly ranked this week. Stanford took out Utah and Texas Tech routed Kansas.
The New Years Six race is heating up even more after this week. USF is ranked #18, San Diego State is ranked #19, UCF is ranked #22, and newly ranked is Navy at #25. The AAC race between USF, UCF, Navy, and Houston will likely produce the New Years Six representative, but if San Diego State goes undefeated they should make the NY6 bowl.
Virginia sits at a sneaky 4-1 after beating Duke in a great game. For now they are tied for second in the ACC coastal division.
Central Michigan has a Tight End who has a very high draft stock. Tyler Conklin who went to my high school, returned from injury to play his first game of 2017 and he singled handedly beat Ohio who was on top of the Mid American Conference. He had 10 catches for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns to show the NFL that he plans to be drafted.
Western Michigan beat Buffalo 71-68 in the highest scoring game in NCAA history. It took 7OTs for the Broncos to win and move to 4-2 on the year.
South Carolina gets a statement win beating the terrible Arkansas Razorbacks 48-22.
Texas got a solid win in double overtime against Kansas State. Both teams are sitting at 3-2.
Texas A/M actually played a very good game in a loss by just 8 to #1 Bama.
And for this weeks top headline, QB Khalil Tate of Arizona rushes for 327 yards in one game to beat Colorado 45-42.
