The Big East once again looks like the most competitive conference going into the season. Villanova, Xavier and Seton Hall all could be deemed as favorites in the conference this year. Nova has superstar point guard Jalen Brunson back this year with many other great players from last year’s team. Xavier has their own superstar in Trevon Bluiett, who will be sparked by returning sharp shooter JP Macura. Seton Hall may have the best trifecta in college basketball this year, Angel Delgado, Kadeen Carrington, and Desi Rodriguez all return with one quest, to win a Big East Championship again like they did in upset fashion two years ago. These three are not going to be alone at the top of the conference. They may be challenged by Providence, Butler, and Creighton. Providence has the best chance to contend for the title, they returned 3 stunning assets in Rodney Bullock, Kyron Cartwright, and Alpha Diallo, plus added freshman Makai-Aston Langford who should impact this team in a great way. Butler is interesting this year because some are saying they improved, but I believe they got weaker. The returned their best player Kelan Martin, but I do not think he can carry the load on an overall weak team outside of him. Creighton weakened as well, but have a duo with potential. Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas could easily dominate, but I don’t know if it will be enough to contend. Next, a very improved team that may not be able to contend, but can possibly make a run at the NCAA Tournament is St Johns. Top 3 scorers who all averaged above 12 points return (Shamorie Ponds, Marcus LoVett, and Bashir Ahmed). Marquette is interesting this year because they may have the best two-way player in the conference, Markus Howard. However, he has no team around him to have a good season. Depaul will remain at the bottom of the conference, but likely won’t be the worst. A shocker in Georgetown could have the worst season in their programs history. LJ Peak and Rodney Pryor are gone, and they were the only reason why Georgetown did not finish last the previous year.
