Mid Major Topics

  • WOFFORD UPSETS #5 UNC IN CHAPEL HILL.
  • UT Arlington challenges, but falls to #25 Creighton by 9.
  • Oakland takes down Towson, and gets revenge over Eastern Michigan for momentum shifting wins. Towson drops a second game to Pitt to fall out of the mid major top 25 after being top 10.
  • Georgia State has two wins over power conference teams beating Ole Miss and Umass. Watch out for them in the Sun Belt.
  • Albany falls to Lousiville by just 2 in a great game.
  • IPFW continues to stay hot after blowing out Indiana, they beat very good Liberty team by 11. However, they fell to a mid-major power in LTech in the New Orleans Shootout Championship.
  • Idaho goes hot, then gets cold, as they destroyed Western Michigan, but fell to UC Irvine.
  • San Diego State finally plays like we thought they would as they upset at the time #12 Gonzaga. However, to open up Mountain West play they fell to Wyoming who got the #24 spot over the Aztecs.
  • Portland State continues their dominance as they beat Cal by 25.
  • Middle Tennessee’s Giddy Potts nails a late jumper to lift the Blue Raiders over Princeton in an amazing game in the Diamond Head Classic. Then, Middle Tennessee competes, but comes up short to USC, and also falls short to Miami for third place. Midd Tenn is still ranked #2 because of the overall talent they possess.
  • UC Davis knocks off Lamar as both teams have just 4 losses.
  • FGCU finally gets back to playing how they should in a very good loss to Wichita State. The A-Sun may not be as easy as it looks for Dunk City.
  • Rider upsets Penn State, and Stony Brook upsets Rutgers in a bad day for the Big Ten as mid majors ruled.
  • Western Michigan takes out Milwaukee in a game of two teams with very weird season resumes.
  • UNI battles in a loss to # Xavier
  • Loyola Chicago and Missouri State go back and forth until Missouri State pulls away late to win an important Missouri Valley game by 5.
  • Wright State is quietly rising in the Horizon League as they upset GTech.
  • Northern Colorado is the surprise mid major team of the year so far. They fell to UNLV barely on a late three pointer, but they played very well against one of the best mid major squads.
  • New Mexico State hits a late jumper to knock off Davidson in the Diamond Classic first round game. Then, the Aggies got a fantastic upset win over at the time #6 Miami in the second game, but they fall to USC in the championship barely. NMSU snags the top spot in the mid major race as Nevada and Middle Tennessee both lost. Nevada may have killed their at large tournament bid hopes with their terrible loss to San Fran before conference play started up.
