Only days after the tennis world was treated to the best men’s singles final so far this year in Indian Wells, the ATP World Tour heads to south Florida for the Miami Open. Main draw play begins today, and here is what to expect from the world’s best players when they square off at Crandon Park.

Tournament Favorites

  • Roger Federer: The tennis legend suffered his first loss of 2018 in the Indian Wells final, but is still playing at a very high level. Roger only dropped a total of 3 sets last week in the desert, and played well enough to win the whole tournament before running into Juan Martin Del Potro, who is riding a 2018 winning streak of his own. The #1 seed has a fairly easy path to the final this year, and is likely to win his 4th career Miami title.
  • Juan Martin Del Potro: A healthy Juan Martin Del Potro is always an opponent to watch out for. The #6 seed is coming into Miami with a record of 17-3 in 2018 and is riding back to back titles (Acapulco, Indian Wells). However, Del Potro has a tough draw and will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to sweep the Sunshine Double, and could face 3 former top ten players in the middle rounds.

Sleeper Picks

  • Milos Raonic: The Canadian veteran seemed to have returned to his top ten form, making a semifinal run last week. Raonic will start his Miami campaign in the most stacked section of the draw, but could ride his momentum into another stellar performance.
  • Sam Querrey: The 30 year old American is arguably playing the best tennis of his career, making the finals in New York and the quarterfinals in Indian Wells. Querrey is also in the most open quarter of the draw, with #4 seed Alexander Zverev and #8 seed Jack Sock both struggling.
