The first round of the NFL Draft is complete and it was a crazy Thursday Night.

Baker Mayfield becomes the first walk-on college football player to be selected #1 in the NFL Draft. I fully expect Baker to finally bring the Browns success because of the team he has around him, but then again it is the Cleveland Browns. With the 4th pick, I believe the Browns made a mistake taking CB Denzel Ward. DE Bradley Chubb was available, and I think that a defensive line with Myles Garrett and Bradley Chubb on the outside was too good to pass up.

The Giants offense looks scary now that they have RB Saquon Barkley to take pressure off of Eli Manning, so he can hit his WRs when called upon. The defense in New York needs work and they have 6 more rounds to get it done.

The Jets think they got their franchise QB with Sam Darnold and that could be true. However, I am not convinced that Darnold can be the guy for the Jets. I think that Josh Rosen is a more complete QB and he should have been selected at #3. Come Week 1 we may see Teddy Bridgewater starting, but I look forward to a fantastic QB battle for the starting job. Rosen fell to #10 and was picked by Arizona where he should be able to make a name for himself playing for the Cardinals.

Another interesting QB battle will take place in Buffalo. The Bills traded up to snag Josh Allen, who will be competing with AJ McCarron for the starting job.

The Chicago Bears offense looks very good and to add to it their defense got a fantastic player. Roquan Smith fell to #8 and was a steal for the Bears who now have a staple in the middle of their defense.

Derwins James surprisingly fell in the draft and he was eventually picked by the LA Chargers. The Chargers offense as we know from last year was very solid, and their defense was not far behind. Adding Derwin James to the secondary makes this team even better heading into the season.

The Cowboys really disappointed me even though they got a monster of a linebacker in Leighton Vander-Esch to team up with Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith. Dallas desperately needs a young star receiver and with them passing on one with the 19th pick, I don’t know if they can get the star they need.

Offensive players finally came off the board starting at pick #24. The Carolina Panthers picked WR DJ Moore who got a lot of buzz after the selection. Cam Newton hit up HC Ron Rivera saying thank you so much for the pick, and former all-pro WR Steve Smith said that Carolina finally replaced him years after he retired. The Ravens got the best TE in the draft at #25 in Hayden Hurst. The Falcons paired up Alabama WRs picking Calvin Ridley at #26 to team up with Julio Jones. The Seahawks saw something in a running back and they went and grabbed RB Rashaad Penny to be their lead back in surprise pick at #27. Lastly with offensive picks, the Patriots got a beast of a running back in Sony Michel with the 31st pick.

With the final pick in the first round, the Eagles sent the 32nd pick to the Baltimore Ravens who used their pick to select QB Lamar Jackson to back-up Joe Flacco and rejuvenate the Ravens offense. Lamar could be an impact player down the road in Baltimore.
